How much currency does one individual need?

09/15/25: I need to update some of the info from the original post soon because I’ve been enjoying food etc more lately so if I got financially independent I don’t think I’d be as ascetic as I originally planned. To be continued haha.

Calculation of how much currency in USD each individual human needs to be 100% financially secure for life

Age 32: $2,669,000. Age 80: $1,320,200. See detailed calculations below.

To not be a hypocrite and to lead by example, there is a certain point of personal wealth for me that is a cutoff point where I will donate all in excess of it to The Venus Project nonprofit organization. (If I ever reach that point of personal USD I will update the info on my Donate webpage so that people no longer donate anything to me through PayPal but instead consider donating directly to The Venus Project.)

My <100% Financially Secure For Life Cutoff Point For One Individual> calculations are the cost of [a small home, home insurance, home repairs/maintenance, property taxes, vehicle, auto insurance, vehicle repairs/maintenance, gasoline or auto electricity, food, health insurance, medical, wellness/massage, nutritional supplements, electricity, natural gas, water/wastewater, Spotify Premium, GoodRx Gold, Costco Wholesale, cleaning supplies, laundry, personal care/hygiene items, phone, internet, Apple data upgrade, Kindle eBooks, online courses, medication(s), federal income taxes*, inflation*, and interest income paid by savings account(s)*] x multiplied by the years one might have left to live in a lifespan of 122 years (Guinness Book of World Records figure).

One Time Expenses: $120,000 home + $20,000 vehicle = $140,000

Annual Expenses: $60 Costco member + $2000 property taxes + $1000 home repairs/maintenance + $500 vehicle repairs/maintenance + $500 medical = $4060 -> round to $4100 per year

Monthly Expenses: $300 home insurance + $300 auto insurance + $120 gasoline/auto electricity + $250 food + $400 health insurance + $130 wellness/90m massage + $100 nutritional supplements + $12.98 Spotify Premium + $9.99 GoodRx Gold + $0.99 Apple data upgrade + $65 electricity + $40 water/wastewater + $40 internet + $50 phone + $15 cleaning supplies / laundry + $10 personal care / hygiene items + $20 Kindle eBooks + $15 online courses + $80 medication(s) = $1958.96 -> round to $2000 x 12 = $24,000 per year

$24,000 + $4100 = $28,100 per year. 122 years – 32 years old = 90 years left. So $28,100 x 90 = $2,529,000 + $140,000 = $2,669,000 so any wealth I might accrue over that amount I will donate to The Venus Project. I would look at fluctuations each year like each year behind me would mean needing $28,100 less in the fund, plus factoring in federal income taxes, inflation, and interest income paid by savings account(s). I kept the house + vehicle amount in the final total because technically a natural disaster or total loss collision could wipe out those assets any day, so that way there is always room in the fund to replace them if needed.

As far as the annual fluctuations, for example: At age 80 I would only need 122 max lifespan – 80 years old = 42 years x $28,100 expenses per year = $1,180,200 + $140,000 = $1,320,200 in savings accounts as the new cutoff point over which I would donate my excess USD to The Venus Project.

{Subtract $281,000 every 10 years ::} 0 years old: $3,568,200 USD. 10 years old: $3,287,200. 20 years old: $3,006,200. 30 years old: $2,725,200. 40 years old: $2,444,200. 50 years old: $2,163,200. 60 years old: $1,882,200. 70 years old: $1,601,200. 80 years old: $1,320,200. 90 years old: $1,039,200. 100 years old: $758,200. 110 years old: $477,200. 120 years old: $196,200. // 122 years old: $140,000 – leave it to The Venus Project in Last Will and Testament.
